Now that I am curious… let’s figure out what full stack is.
“A full stack web developer is a person who can develop both client and server software.” -Wikipedia
OK, my WordPress site runs on the server and renders pages to my chrome browser. Does that mean it is a full stack application? Wait, what exactly is the nuance between the server and client.
Technically the client software is what runs on the clients browser and the server software runs on the server. But WordPress sends out rendered pages to my browser. Wait, is WordPress both? I am so confused.
Let’s forget about WordPress and google full stack and see if there is some more explanation. Result = a Mark Price video. Who is the guy Mark Price?
Mark’s video was about learning software engineering on your own, no college, no bootcamp, just online. He gave me the inspiration to pursue a full stack education all online. I already have a mechanical engineering degree so how hard could this be :). In retrospect pretty hard!
This is when I discovered Udemy. On it I found several complete courses on full stack engineering. I bought several. One instructor I really liked was Colt Steele. He has a computer science degree but doesn’t make you feel like an imposter. His passion is mainly teaching. In the past my best teachers were incredibly smart but never let on that they were. They expected the most out of you and challenged you. Colt is incredibly smart and challenges you too. This is his course
I was shocked how low the prices were for a 40 hour course. When I went to college a 3 credit course was about 30 hrs of lectures. So with Udemy you are getting a 3 credit course for $12! What.
Now I don’t recommend you cram this stuff, you will get burnt out very fast. I tried to take these course at night and weekends but I just was too worn out. I had to change something. I started looking at my resources, my revenue from EmbroideryWare, my expenses….. Oh no where is this heading?
